Jo was invited to work with Children’s World International on a tour of schools, community centres and displaced communities, in Bhopal, scene of one of the world’s worst industrial accidents, the 1984 Union Carbide gas disaster. A huge gas explosion killed thousands. Land is still contaminated, including the water table, and children three generations on are being born with disabilities inherited from the contaminated water. The team provided workshops and shows for the children and their families. Visiting Bhopal demonstrated how robust children can be; that they can live through horrendous circumstances and still come out smiling.
